A mixed weather report and a wet pitch awaited the sides for the final game of the season at Palmer Park. Though nothing for either team to prove the request to the Hoops was to finish the season on a high and get a nine and one record on the books.
The boys started at a cracking pace and the Meadway goal area became more and more under pressure as the first half progressed. Everytime the boys found their passing boots there looked like being a chance of a goal and everytime the Youth tried to break out the Hoops defence shut them off at the half-way line and put the pressure back on. It was just a matter of patience and time before the first goal was going to come. Before that, the Meadway keeper made some good saves, the Youth defenders were throwing themselves in front of shots and the best chance ended with Sam G hitting the post.
But the goal finally came and what a joy to see a header from a corner finally buried, and so well too!! The corner from Harvie, the finsih from Shaun. Superb. Shaun got his and the team second with an amazing shot, also set up by a great through ball from the skipper, and finished well from the corner of the box!!! I think Shaun will tell me that's what one touch is all about!!!!! The hoops dominated so much that Stevo only got to touch the ball once in the first half and that was a pass back following an injury!! That is top defending in my book.
The second half was a much more even affair. The Hoops became a little dis-jointed, mainly due to so many subs and position changes, but credit to Meadway, they came out with a far more attacking formation and got the two goals their efforts deserved. This wasn't until Reece had taken two fine goal for himself, one set up by Harvie and one a cracking cross into the heart of trouble by Alex D. The result was never really in question through the game and the Hoops had finsihed the league season with the win their football had earned.
So, that's it! The league season over!! A cracking nine wins, one loss, plus 33 gd and some cracking football played a long the way. The best team won the division and the table doesn't lie about that. Each and every boy has been a part of the success of the Hoops and they have improved no-end as confidence has grown, both individually and as a group.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you, the parents, for some great support to the boys through the season and shouting them to their success. It's been a exciting, nervy but well worthwhile ride and we should all enjoy the success through the summer. The tournaments will be a light relief after that.
Hope you and all related to the Hoops have a good summer off. Bring on U13's!
