Evening all...
So usual service resumed this morning with Robbie back from his hip replacement and my duties were reduced to spectator and match report man. One problem though I didnt bring a pen and paper to make notes so will do my best to remember the game.
The starting line-up was Marco in goal (welcome back), Ben and Oli in defence, Brad in the middle of the park with Louis on left and George on the right and Macca up top. Subs this week were Coby and Robbie.
The Colts started off really positively with the attacking three of Macca, Louis and George playing some nice passing and movement between them. Maidenhead were a strong team and had some good players that looked to catch us on the break but Ben and Oliver were immense all game. Their timing of tackles, positional sense and most of all their composure on the ball to find their team mates was really noticeable from the side. With 5 mins on the clock it was time for the Colts to take advantage of their strong start and it was Macca that broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from a tight angle giving the Maidenhead keeper no chance. This solitory goal really gave the boys a lift as it was the first this summer league they had taken the lead in a game and you could feel the atmosphere change from the side and on the pitch. The boys really then started to play like we all know they can with Bradley controlling the centre of the park and making powerful runs into the Maidenhead half we piled the pressure on. It wasn't long before second goal came with Louis picking the ball up on the left and threading an inch perfect pass to the otherside of the pitch for Macca to drive another great shot from a tight angle. So 2-0 up and all of a sudden it was like watching a different team with Louis, Bradley and George each going close to getting that vital third goal. With the half coming to an end and the boys pressing for that important third goal they got caught on the break by Maidenhead with a good team goal to go in 2-1 up.
The boys got some well deserved drinks at half time and Robbie made a change with Louis coming off for Coby to slot in on the left of midfield.
Anyone thats into their football knows that being 2-1 up at half time is tricky and the key is to secure that third goal. The Colts started much the same with Coby making a real impact on the left with some tough tackling and great control of the ball. The early parts of the half saw the ball mainly in the middle of the park and Bradley was really starting to boss the game with some great tackles, runs and shots. It was not long before he got his rewards with a great run and shot from distance to make it 3-1 to the Colts. At this point you would have thought we were in total control but Maidenhead had their chances to get back in the game but for some great defensive tackles from Ben and Oli. Now hopefully I have this around the right way but our fourth goal came from Macca to seal a well deserved hat trick and it wasn't long before the fifth was upon us. Bradley took a shot from distance only for the ball to drop to our fox in the box George to poke in from close range (we won't mention the goal line clearance minutes before :). So 5-1 up and cruising to a wonderful victory only for Maidenhead to catch us on the break with great goal.
Full time 5-2 yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
