Match Report 15th September 2007

Westwood 1  -  Woodley Hammers Blue 0

Started the game a bit slower than usual but soon started to dominate proceedings. Adam and Ben working really well together with good support from Thomas and Billy in the midfield. Nice and tight at the back with James and Monty concentrating on marking tight and excellent communication from George in goal.
Substitutes Mellissa and Imran looked very focused when they came on and kept the Woodley side frustrated by their close marking and tough tackling.

Half time finished nil nil. Need to be patient and keep trying to play our passing game.
Second half and Westwood stepped up the pace putting relentless pressure on the Woodley defence who eventually conceded. The short corner routine didn't exactly go according to plan but eventually the ball fell to Billy who turned and swept it in the top corner. Woodley came back strong but Westwood held firm and got the win they deserved.

 Fair play award ; Thomas

Covered every blade of grass, great passing, difficult decision again

Good to see Louis and Jordan back.

Westwood Wanderers 1 v Pangbourne  0      8/8/07.

Following a midweek defeat to Barton in a friendly the team kicked off the start of the new season against Pangbourne very well.
They started the game very well going one nil up in the third minute through a goal from Adam Sipson, after some good battling in there penalty area.
Pangbourne were trying to pass the ball around through their three midfielders but Westwood's two midfielders Thomas and Billy worked extremely hard to break up there game and release our two strikers'.
Defensively we looked very solid with James, Monty and Melissa all concentrating and snuffing out any danger.

Up front we looked like scoring another before half time with Adam playing slightly behind Ben, both capable of scoring from a distance.
Second half was very much as the first with Westwood dominating much of the play and working very hard to win the ball back.
Pangbourne's main threat came from corners but again good organizing by George and Billy made sure Westwood held firm. Again some great running and movement by Ben up front linking with Adam. Thomas and Imran who were also unlucky not to score only denied by great goalkeeping by the Pangbourne stopper.
Westwood could have had a penalty towards the end, but this would have been very harsh if given.
The moment of the match came in the dying moments when a Pangbourne player broke free and unleashed a tremendous shot that looked like it was in the top corner, only for George to through himself and somehow tip the ball over the bar for a corner .{ well worth the entrance money alone}.

Fair play award ::  Ben Ashfield

For non stop running on and off the ball and very unselfish play Very close decision though as every player gave 100%.Very pleasing to see.
