Roll Call

Westwood Wanderers 4 - 5 Maidenhead Athletico (10/11/09)

After edging a nine goal thriller last week, Wanderers saw a reversal of fortunes against a physical Maidenhead side.

Having lost 5 - 0 to the same side in the cup semi last year, there was an element of trepidation before kick off.

However, we were quickly into our stride and Blenky broke clear of the Maidenhead defence to cross for Abas to convert.

Our width and pace were causing problems with both Roffy and Wilfred going close before Joe lobbed the keeper for a 2 - 0 lead.

Could we hold till half-time? Sadly not. Maidenhead started to show up front and their pace began to trouble our back four. They grabbed a goal from a quick break and then scored from a poorly defended corner to draw the scores level.

Further hesitation at the back allowed Maidenhead in again and it looked like we would be trailing at the break, only for Joe to score direct from a corner. 3 - 3 and all to play for second half.

Immediately from kick off, Maidenhead broke clear and Lee couldn't quite hold on to a well struck shot. Heads dropped a little, but with Harry and Joe battling in midfield we started to get back into the game.

A few knocks and injuries disrupted play, but from a free kick out on the right, Joe floated a superb shot over the keeper to draw us level once again.

Both teams went looking for the win and from a free kick Maidenhead took the lead again and for what would be the final time.

We went close late on from Abas's fantastic cross, but under pressure from the keeper and defence Wilfred couldn't quite scramble the ball home.

Seb picked up the Man of the Match award.

Rotherfield Raiders 4 - 5 Westwood Wanderers (BYDL 3/10/09)

Wanderers made it difficult for themselves, but showed loads of guts and determination ran out narrow winners.

A blustery wind and difficult pitch (pitch 10 again!) caused both defences problems and it was Rotherfield who opened the scoring, a long ball over the top knocked past Adam in our goal.

Playing up hill first half was always going to be a challenge, however Sam B's strong run up the right and great finish pulled us level and Joe's coolly struck penalty put us into the lead.

Rotherfield exploited defensive hesitation to draw level before half-time and then early in the second half scored twice to lead 4 - 2.

Sam P took over in goal (no reflection on Adam's keeping) and with Adam joining Callum at centre back we started to turn the match.

Roffy scored twice in quick succession, both times out pacing the defence to slide home past their keeper.

It looked like being a draw, but with time running out Joe controlled a ball on the edge of the box and smashed home high into the net - a match winning goal for which he duly picked up the man of the match award.

Westwood Wanderers 19 - 0 Burghfield (20/9/09 - B&B Cup Prelim Round)

Following the exertions of the previous day just 11 of the side were fit to contest the preliminary round of the Berks & Bucks Cup.

From the first whistle the boys were on top of their game and simply blew Burghfield away.

Fours goals each from Wilfred and Roffy, a hat-trick for Chaz and a brace each for Ads, Sam B, Joe and Seb.

Boys showed a fantastic work rate throughout and moved the ball really well, particularly to bring the wingers into play.

Thanks to H and Roffy for each having a spell in goal.

Westwood 5 - 3 Wokingham & Emmbrook (19/9/09)

The second game of the season saw us playing Wokingham, played again on what is fast becoming the infamous "Pitch 10" at Prospect Park.

Playing downhill first half, early goals by Wilfred and Joe (penalty) put us well in control.  Against the run of play Wokingham pulled a goal back following a defensive mix up, but Joe struck again before half-time to restore the two goal lead.

The first goal in the second half was always going to be decisive and Joe and Abas linked up superbly to send Abas through to finish with aplomb by lobbing the keeper.

Wokingham kept battling and pulled another back, before Joe secured scored his third (our fifth) to make the game safe. Wokingham scored a consolation late on.

This was an excellent performance by all the boys. Seb deputising in goal played very well, Joe and Abas looked strong on our left side and Sam B was a threat all game long down the right.

Callum picked up the Man of the Match award.

Meadway 6 - 2 Westwood (12/9/09)

The new season kicked off with a match against last season's league winners, Meadway.

Played at this seasons new venue, Prospect Park, we started brightly and despite falling a goal behind, the boys responded and goals from Wilfred and Joe gave us a 1 - 2 half-time lead.

The second half was played "up the slope" and despite best efforts we struggled to create any clear chances, with Meadway scoring at regular intervals.

An enjoyable game, played in very good spirits. Man of the Match award went to Sam Pittman who deputised in goal for the Injured Lee Wyatt.
